Of course, a true contrarian would have the four lowest seeds moving forward, which the author points out is “stupid.” So, at best this seems to be a hybrid strategy. Which is why it might just work. Unfortunately, not in 2017 as the simulation picked only two of the Final Four teams and chose the wrong winner. It also failed to pick several upsets and missed most of the other regional finalists. If that wins your office pool, you might want to update your résumé. No organization can last long with a lack of brainpower like that.
